Who Is John Cera
Master John began Martial Arts training in 1980 at the age of ten. After years of trying to learn Kung Fu from books and the occasional Wing Chun class, John joined the Willow Heart Judo Academy in Melbourne's north and started formal training at the age of 13. During his early teens John also practised various styles of Kung Fu until he started Boxing with the Brizi Brothers at 16. From there he moved into Taekwondo which he continued for the next 3 years.
In 1990 John was introduced to a very obscure Martial Art called Muay Thai, which was being taught at the famous Fitzroy Stars Gym by the late Master Dana Goodson, and was immediately hooked. Master Dana's Muay Thai was exactly what John had been searching for and he would continue training under Master Dana until he passed away in 2000. John also Studied Aikido under Master Joe Thambu and Escrima under Master Vince Palumbo during this period.
In 1995 John founded the Five Elements System which was a combination of everything he had learned, the system focused mainly on self defence against weapons and he continues to teach and refine this art to date.
John started Brazilian Jiu-jitsu with Rob Williams in 2001 and after a year he began focusing on No-Gi or submission Grappling, which was more in line with the Five Elements System than sports Jiu-jitsu.
Muay Thai will always be Johns favourite Martial Art and he continues to train with the worlds best fighters in Thailand every year, however submission grappling and the Five Elements System are a crucial part of the modern era of Martial Arts and John has always been committed to the complete growth and development of his students.
